XML in IE5

This book is about the support available in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 for XML and its associated technologies, such as Extended Stylesheet Language (XSL) and the Document Object Model (DOM) that provides access to XML documents. Microsoft has undertaken to provide full support for XML and other associated standards in lE5. These standards are set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and cover a whole range of different technologies. This early commitment to full standards-level support in lE5 may be the key that will give XML the chance to succeed where HTML failed in the compatibility stakes. Providing other browser manufacturers follow the published standards, we can hope to have a situation where a page works exactly the same in all browsers. However, Microsoft are also adding support for proposals that they themselves put forward to the W3C, and which are not yet ratified. This book covers these extensions to the standards.
