Cassils

Heather Cassils is a performance artist and body builder who uses her own body in a sculptural fashion, thereby interrogating feminism, body art, and gay male aesthetics. Together, her body of work and physical body stretch and play with the boundaries between binary conceptions of gender, and between vulnerability and strength. Applying extreme techniques uncommon to the realm of contemporary art, such as bodybuilding, stunts, and martial arts, transgender physiques emerge that physically question notions of violence and resistance from a transgendered perspective, illustrated here through several compelling works.
