DJ Simpson

With its equal elements of craft and creativity, colour and scale, and its knowing nod towards art history, DJ Simpson s work uses the language of painting and the techniques of drawing. His work critiques minimalist sensibilities on a monumental scale, using cheap, low-tech materials to produce high-value contemporary art products. Simpson s work presents a challenge to the exhibition space, their massive scale sitting awkwardly within the gallery. These works are dynamic, loud, their cartoon-like scale dwarfing the solemn gallery architecture. Simpson's art within such a setting is like organizing a rave in a church. This book re-presents and explores DJ Simpson s first solo museum show, held at Mead Gallery in 2006.
