Egon Schiele

In 1912 Egon Schiele - he was 22 years old at the time - was charged with child abuse and the distribution of pornography. In the course of the process, the judge - who called himself a "great friend of art" - burned a nude drawing by the young artist. The scandal was perfect. Since the baroque era, there have been repeated erotic representations in European art that were initially only intended for private use. It was not until the 20th century that such images were shown publicly, which initially - as in the Schiele case - met with great outrage. This book shows the most beautiful of these drawings and watercolors in a book form that comes very close to the artist's original sketchbook.
