Initiative

This is part of a general English course designed to meet the needs of post-First Certificate level students. It is particularly suitable for students pursuing English as part of their academic studies and for large classes where pairwork and groupwork are not always practical and a serious, study-based approach is preferred. The course aims to: teach students new language and consolidate existing knowledge; encourage students to explore different way of thinking about language learning; and develop good study habits which can be applied outside the English classroom. The course focuses on reading and writing, with special attention paid to discourse analysis throughout. There is also a strong emphasis on vocabulary and collocation. A discovery approach to grammar encourages students to work out rules of usage and structure for themselves, promoting learner independence and autonomy.
