Japanese Schmuck

Mexican artists Martha Hellion and Felipe Ehrenberg moved to England in the wake of the 1968 student movement in Mexico. With the help of David Mayor they eventually founded Beau Geste Press on a farm in Devon. There, they published eight issues of Schmuck between 1972 and 1978 in editions of around 500. They also published numerous artists' books by Ehrenberg and others at the press. The goal of the magazine, and the Beau Geste Press, was to foster international relationships between artists; with Schmuck they dedicated special issues to art from various countries: France Germany, Hungary, Japan, Czechoslovakia, and Iceland.

This is the eighth and final issue of Schmuck magazine, guest edited by Taii Ashizawa and Takehisa Kosugi, and features work by Kazumichi Fujiwara, Myor Hayashi, Shoji Kaneko, Kiichi Kobayashi, Kunimasa Kuriyama, Yoshio Nakajima, Art Duck/Terry Reid, Takako Saito, and Hideki Yoshida. The issue features tipped-in pieces on tissue, wax and reflective mirror paper, die-cuts, booklets and a label designed by Ay-O (Takao Iijima) pasted onto the front cover.
