Le Récit

First edition and the first published artist's book by Jean Le Gac. An early and characteristic example of the emerging Narrative Art movement, constructed from photographs, fragments of newspaper articles and texts which together create the fictional persona Florent Max. Rather than presenting photography as autonomous imagery, Le Gac uses the interaction between image, found text and narrative to question the identity of both artist and protagonist.
