Mein Protokoll

Mein Protokoll, also known as Mein Bitterfelder Protokoll, is an artist's book by the renowned German neo-expressionist A.R. Penck, published in 1993 through Edition Staeck. Spanning 240 pages, the publication serves as a deeply personal and critical diary that captures Penck's raw observations during the 3rd Bitterfeld Conference, a pivotal event focused on evaluating the complex relationship between art, society, and strict state ideology. Rather than a conventional text, the book blends his reflective writings with his signature, primitive symbolic drawings and stick figures, transforming political commentary into a cohesive piece of visual art.
