Stirling at War

Being the first of the RAF's "heavies", the massive Stirling wasn't as succesful as the heavy bombers that followed it, the Halifax and, most notably, the famous Lancaster. It was introduced as a bomber in 1941 but withdrawn in 1943 after suffering high casualties during the Battle of Berlin. Later versions of the Stirling were used to carry paratroops and towed assault gliders like the Horsa into battle. It was a robust aircraft, well liked by its crews.
