Willi Baumeister

Willi Baumeister (1889 - 1955) is one of the few outstanding artists that came out of the german southwest in the 20th century. The first landmark in his artistic development was reached with the constructivist paintings in the 1920s. Ostracized as „degenerate art“ by the national socialists, Baumeister continued his way with steadfast consequence and left behind a extensive and impressive body of work. The former director of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart Peter Beye and Felicitas Baumeister, daughter of the artist, worked together on this catalogue raisonne of his paintings. It covers about 2200 pictures, carefully documented with the help of archival research.
