Yoni

Yoni is the Sanskrit word for 'Divine Passage', 'place of birth' or 'sacred temple', it is also the title of Wangechi Mutu's first solo exhibition in Britain. This exhibition is the result of Mutu's recent inquiries into the biology of reproduction, a study which began with her scrutinizing the flowers and plants in the garden of her Harlem brownstone, then burgeoned into a wider examination of vegetable and animal organisms and ultimately the imagery and myths of fertility and reporduction around the world.
