Omschrijving
An important early publication by Daniel Buren and a document of the formative years of European Conceptual Art. “Mise en garde” was first published in French in the catalogue of the exhibition Konzeption/Conception (Städtisches Museum, Leverkusen, October 1969). The present independent Antwerp edition, issued only one month later by A 37 90 89, gives Buren's corrected text together with German and English translations.
The publication was initiated by A 37 90 89, the short-lived alternative art and communication centre in Antwerp coordinated by Kasper König. In “Mise en garde”, Buren critically examines the emerging terminology and assumptions surrounding Conceptual Art, making the publication particularly characteristic of the theoretical debates accompanying its development at the end of the 1960s.
